The sun was out, the food trucks were stocked, and people with absolutely no fashion sense converged once again upon the Anaheim Convention Center to attend the musical instrument industry’s premiere stateside event.
This year’s Winter NAMM show was the largest ever, with over 1,700 exhibitors showing off the latest products across all musical instrument categories. And while the show was as much fun as any other year (that would be a lot), this was mostly an evolutionary year, with plenty of new product launches, but only a handful that were specifically awe-inspiring or revolutionary.
The biggest innovation will be of interest to the guitar amp and studio communities, and it came from… Korg! Their Nutube technology presents a complete redesign of the ubiquitous vacuum tube, reducing the form factor, reducing heat output, and improving reliability. It was very impressive.
