PIXIES WILL CELEBRATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BAND'S DEBUT EP, COME ON PILGRIM AND FULL STUDIO ALBUM, SURFER ROSA BY PERFORMING BOTH ALBUMS LIVE, START TO FINISH, AT A THREE-NIGHT STAND AT NEW YORK'S BROOKLYN STEEL
LOS ANGELES, CA - (Tuesday, September 18, 2018) - On September 28, 4AD Records will release
Come On Pilgrim...It's Surfer Rosa, the special 30th-anniversary edition of Pixies' very first release, the eight-track mini-album Come On Pilgrim (originally released September 1987) and the band's first full album, Surfer Rosa (first out March 1988). To celebrate this jubilant milestone, Pixies announce that they will play three very special intimate shows at New York's Brooklyn Steel this November 18, 19 and 20, performing both releases live, start-to-finish as well as additional songs from that time period that are not on the anniversary release. These New York dates will follow the band's five sold-out Come On Pilgrim...It's Surfer Rosa celebratory performances at London's Roundhouse, and three sold-out shows in Mexico City in October and November. Tickets for the New York shows will be priced at $65.00 (plus fees) with a maximum of two tickets per customer and go on sale this Thursday, September 20 at 12 NOON ET.
Pixies are well-known for their efforts to thwart ticket scalping, to put as many face-value tickets as possible into the hands of fans and not to scalpers who would resell the tickets at inflated prices. The Come On Pilgrim EP contained eight songs from the band's first-ever studio session, produced by Gary Smith and recorded at his Fort Apache Studio near Boston. Surfer Rosa is a record made up of rage, religion, gore, incest and superheroes named Tony - a debut album so good that it's since been seen as a masterpiece. Produced by Steve Albini, it was recorded in December 1987 at Q Division in Boston, MA and includes early Pixies classics such as "Bone Machine," "Gigantic," "Vamos" and "Where Is My Mind?" The Come On Pilgrim...It's Surfer Rosa 30th anniversary package also contains "Live From The Fallout Shelter," a concert-cum-session that first aired in late 1986 on WJUL-FM in Lowell, MA.

While Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam, today, a whole new generation of music fans are discovering their iconic "loudquietloud" signature sound. After five genre-defining studio albums, Pixies disbanded in 1993, and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds all over the globe for seven years, a longer period of time than they were a band originally. But writing, recording and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012. Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, working with a variety of touring bassists, something they'd never done.
Pixies surprised everyone on June 28, 2013 with the brand new song "Bagboy" ("...a vintage Pixie-ian meld of garage punk and anthemic pop choruses" - Mojo), and then regularly released new songs digitally over the course of the following 10 months. On April 29, 2014, fans could hold in their hands Indie Cindy, Pixies' first full album of new material in more than 20 years.
In late 2016, Pixies officially welcomed bassist Paz Lenchantin (who had been the touring bassist since January 2014) as a permanent member. The band went into a London studio and recorded their second post-reunion release, Head Carrier, released 9/30/16 ("...an inspired reaffirmation of all the spark, wit and weirdness, tempered by the occasional burst of emotional rawness, that made people fall in love with the Pixies in the first place." - NPR). As the UK's DIY put it, "They're back. They're still brilliant. God save the Pixies."
