BAE Audio Offshoot UK Sound to Debut FET Compressors, New Line of 1073 Preamps and Equalizers at NAMM 2018

Anaheim, CA — UK Sound [Booth 15917, Anaheim Convention Center], a manufacturer of high-quality vintage-inspired hardware, announced that it will debut six new products at NAMM 2018: the 176 and 276 FET compressors, and a new line of four products based on the industry-defining 1073 preamp and equalizer. The new hardware significantly expands the company’s offerings of expertly constructed but affordable studio products that capture the classic sounds of yesterday and today.

“A year ago we were first debuting the 1173, our first UK Sound product, right here at NAMM,” says UK Sound CEO Mark Loughman. “Now, with six new additions to our product line, our users will easily be able to build a whole studio rack out of our UK Sound products alone. We set out to make great analog sound more accessible than ever before with UK Sound, and its very exciting to see our product line blossom and find its way into studios everywhere.”

'76: A FET to remember
The 176 and 276 compressors are UK Sound’s new single and dual-channel FET compressors, making a high-quality version of this studio staple more cost-effective than ever. Featuring the classic operation and sound characteristics of hit-making compressors from the 60s and 70s, its easy to dial in a great sound on any source. Input and output gains and selectable ratios of 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, and 20:1 allow users to deftly tame peaks and fit each audio signal exactly where you want it in the mix, while a face-mounted gain reduction meter shows how hard the unit is working.

The 176 and 276 also feature the beloved hidden “all buttons in” mode that unlocks a unique compressor behavior accessed by depressing multiple ratio buttons. The 276 features stereo linking for true stereo operation, making it a great fit for treating keyboards, drum overheads, or entire busses.

A living tradition
The UK Sound 73 honors the tradition that made its parent company, BAE Audio, one of the best known names in analog hardware. Featuring an exacting recreation of the famous transformer-based signal path that gave the original 1073 its rich analog character and induction EQ that allows musical tone shaping with even the deepest cut or boost, the UK Sound 73 is a powerful and affordable tool or tracking and mixing housed within a sturdy 1RU chassis. It brings the classic 1073 sound to a wider range of users than ever before, allowing them to experience the ear-pleasing qualities of analog hardware.

UK Sound expands upon this flagship EQ with several variations featuring the 1073’s preamplifier circuit in isolation. The 73 DMP preamp/DI features a single channel of that classic tone in a portable, standalone unit with dual thru outputs for easy use in conjunction with one or more amplifiers. A dual 73 DMP is available as well, packing two channels of the same analog goodness within a single chassis. The coveted sound of the 1073 preamp will also be available in a dual-channel 1RU rack format, called the 73MP. For 500 series aficionados, the 73MPL brings UK Sound quality and classic tone to your powered lunchbox rack, such as the new BAE Audio R53.
