Ron Broder is best known as the bassist and vocalist of the Swiss metal band Coroner. He co-founded the band in 1983 alongside guitarist Tommy Vetterli and drummer Marquis Marky. Coroner quickly became one of the most technically proficient and innovative acts in the metal scene, blending elements of progressive metal, jazz fusion, and classical influences into their sound. Broder's unique bass playing and distinct vocal style were pivotal to the band’s identity, especially during their classic albums R.I.P., Punishment for Decadence, and No More Color.
Currently, Coroner is recording their first album in over 30 years and in conjunction with that, Solar Guitars are proud to release the A1.4CORONER - Ron Broder Signature. Ron adds: "I love the tight neck and it has the perfect body where my arm can rest comfortably"
Ron Broder's signature bass is a stunning example of craftsmanship and versatility, designed to meet the demands of his complex playing style in Coroner. Built on a foundation of a Swamp Ash body, this bass offers a bright, resonant tone with excellent clarity and punch. The 3-piece maple neck-through design, paired with a sleek ebony fingerboard, ensures stability and fast playability, while the 34” scale and 24 stainless steel frets provide the perfect setup for intricate riffs and technical passages.
With Luminlay side dots for enhanced visibility on dark stages, and Jinho machine heads for precise tuning stability, the bass is engineered for both performance and reliability. A Hipshot USA bridge locks down the intonation, delivering impeccable sustain and resonance. The heart of the bass is its dual Seymour Duncan SMB-4D pickups, renowned for their powerful, punchy response, which work in concert with a Seymour Duncan STC-2P preamp. The flexible controls offer a range of tonal possibilities, with a push/pull active/passive switch, balance control, concentric bass/treble knobs, and two mini-switches for series, parallel, and coil-cut options—giving Ron complete control over his sound.
Adding to the visual appeal, the Coroner logo graces the truss rod cover, while Schaller strap pins ensure the bass stays secure during live performances. This is a bass that not only embodies Ron Broder’s technical prowess but also delivers the precision and punch needed to cut through in Coroner’s intense, progressive metal sound.
