ENGL Amplification, Germany’s leading manufacturer of tube electric guitar amplifiers, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023 with an exclusive limited edition of its legendary Fireball amplifier and big plans for the upcoming 12 months.
From humble beginnings in Bavaria, Germany, in 1983, ENGL has grown to become the world’s most recognizable guitar amplifier for rock and metal players across the globe, with its amps, speaker cabinets, FX pedals and other accessories seen on stages, in studios and at practice spaces in every country, and signature products created in collaboration with some of the music world’s biggest stars.
Founder Edmund Engl and Senior Designer Horst Langer – both of whom remain at the reins at ENGL to this day – first began designing and releasing amps on a small scale, but quickly became the talk of Germany with innovative, class-leading products like the Straight and the Savage in the 1980s and 1990s.
As the hype grew, so did the award-winning product line, to include amps that have become synonymous with incredible guitar tone: the Powerball, the Fireball, the Invader, the Ironball, and the Artist Edition and Special Edition are all ENGL creations. All made in Germany to the highest production values, ENGL amps represent the best that classic tube amplifier tone has to offer, alongside state-of-the-art analog and digital innovations.
In addition, the ENGL team has worked together with superstar guitarists like Marty Friedman, Steve Morse, Ritchie Blackmore and Victor Smolski to create a range of signature guitar amplifiers that represent the absolute peak of guitar amp tone and design.
Now, for 2023 and the company’s 40th anniversary, ENGL is producing an exclusive – and extremely limited – series of Fireball 100 and 25 amplifiers at its German Custom Shop. The run will be limited to 40 amps (with matching cabinets also available) in a unique celebratory “racing stripe” colorway, and will be instant collectors’ pieces. Batches will be delivered to the USA, Europe and Asia Pacific regions.
Edmund Engl said: “Forty years ago, ENGL began as an idea and a passion project on the smallest of scales. We would never have believed we’d become one of the world’s biggest players when it comes to high gain guitar tone! But we’re extremely happy and grateful to be in this position, and our passion to build the best guitar amplifiers out there still burns as strongly as it did on day one. We’re so thankful to the entire ENGL family for putting their trust in us over the years, and we can’t wait to see where the journey continues!”
ENGL will be at the 2023 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, from April 13-15. Located at Booth 208AB, the brand will be showcasing its latest product line, and there will be hints of what is to come in the near future.
