Dean Guitars’ MD 24 Select Balances Cool with Playability

TAMPA, FL — Dean Guitars’ 2020 Select Series is now even more rock-solid with the unveiling of the new MD 24 Select models. Built with satin necks, easy-access heel joints, and exclusive direct-mount Seymour Duncan pickups, MD 24 Select guitars balance a cool aesthetic with extreme playability. The optional Floyd Rose tremolo system is just one of the high-end appointments that players can enjoy on the new MD 24 Select models, all without breaking the bank.

Like other guitars in Dean’s Select Series, the MD 24 Select models were designed by professional musicians for professional musicians. These guitars are fully loaded with some of the most reliable and enjoyable features. It all starts with a custom basswood body that offers a strong midrange and is well-suited for loud high-gain tones. Aesthetically, basswood is also ideal for the eye-catching colors. Players asked for new finishes, and Dean delivered with Classic White and Flame Top Trans Cherry, with versions also available in Classic Black and Flame Top Tiger Eye. To improve playing comfort, each MD 24 Select model has a flat top with an arm cut and back belly cut.

Dean offers four unique MD 24 Select models. The MD 24 Select Floyd Classic White and MD 24 Select Flame Top Floyd Trans Cherry are built with the high-end Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo system at the bridge and Floyd Rose R3 nut (1 11/16’’ width), which keeps tuning stable during heavy riffing or blistering solos. The other two non-Floyd models, the MD 24 Select Classic White and MD 24 Select Flame Top Trans Cherry, offer the reliable Tune-O-Matic hardtail bridge with Dean’s exclusive Cadi tailpiece for ease and sustain.

Electronically, there’s plenty to love about the tonally versatile MD 24 Select models. The combination of exclusive Seymour Duncan APH-1N and TB-5/SH-5 pickups deliver a wide range of tones, from high-gain metal to sparkling cleans and everything in between. The APH-1N Alnico II Pro at the neck is sensitive to pick attacks and responds with singing highs and warm, buttery lows. The TB-5/SH-5 custom bridge pickup has just the right balance of power, sustain, and distortion to cut through with a distinctive high-end and midrange attack. Tonally, these Seymour Duncan pickups are one-of-a-kind and esthetically, their custom zebra parchment finish and sand-blasted pole pieces set their look apart from the rest. Dean keeps the controls on the MD 24 Select models simple, with one volume knob and a 3-way toggle, both with dome black knobs.

MD 24 Select models have a bolt-on, 3-piece maple neck (25 ½’’ inch scale) with dual-action truss rod that provides an extra midrange punch. The C-shape neck has 24 jumbo frets with an ebony fretboard (12’’ radius) and stylish pearloid dot inlays. Grover tuners at the headstock reinforce tuning stability. Black hardware rounds out the sleek aesthetic, while neck and headstock binding top off the design with an extra splash of class.
