Offering both in-person and online presentations, this fall’s AES Show affords attendees new ways to experience many of its most exciting sessions, while offering post-event streamcast replay, exclusive events and more. Headlining this year’s Special Event series are keynotes from GRAMMY® award-winning producer Peter Asher and neuroscientist and technologist Poppy Crum, as well as a keynote interview with Blackbird Studio owner and institutional director of The Blackbird Academy John McBride, hosted by METAlliance founding member and multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning producer/engineer Chuck Ainlay (Mark Knopfler, Peter Frampton, George Strait, Miranda Lambert). In addition to the popular Platinum Producers, Engineers and Mastering panels, featured events will also include an NFT creation tutorial and a unique and timely session “Anatomy of a Hit Album Under Quarantine – Harmonium Symphonique,” which will detail how a symphonic re-interpretation of the music of influential 1970's Montreal-based progressive folk-rock band Harmonium was recorded, mixed and mastered during the pandemic through a long-distance collaboration between engineers in Montreal and Los Angeles.
Additionally, the special tribute event “Celebrating Al Schmitt: Our Mentors’ Mentor” will take a look at Schmitt’s phenomenal decades-spanning career as one of the most influential Engineers and Producers in recording history. He was a mentor to generations of audio professionals, and we will be celebrating his life and career with some of his friends and colleagues. Elliot Scheiner will lead a panel including Chuck Ainlay, Niko Bolas, Dana Dowd, Frank Filipetti, George Massenburg and Paula Salvatore.
