TAMPA, FL – Created in 1977, the Dean ML has become one of the most iconic electric guitars in the world. For well over 40 years, this guitar has been the instrument of choice for celebrated artists of all musical genres. Tasked with creating show-stopping, one-of-a-kind models for display at the upcoming NAMM trade show in Anaheim, California, Dean Guitar’s USA Custom Shop stepped up to the task and delivered a stunning example of what quality craftsman can do.
This Dean USA Custom Shop ML features a beautiful Sunset Lake Dual Gradient translucent finish over a 5A flamed maple top. The finish is then replicated over the famed winged logo, against a black headstock. A clear gloss finish covers the mahogany body and a 25.5” scale, three-piece mahogany neck. The 12” radius, ebony fretboard is loaded with 22 jumbo frets, mother of pearl inlays and is outlined with single ply cream binding. This single ply binding continues around the body and headstock.
As with the finish, more beauty is found within the details. Gold plated pole pieces are used in the building of the USA DMT Nostalgia and USA DMT Equalizer humbucker pickups. This pickup combination gives guitar players the ultimate in tone combination. The DMT Equalizer in the bridge gives the guitar all the might a player would want and the DMT Nostalgia in the neck provides the warmer, classier tones for clean and dirty signals. With two individual volume controls, one master tone control, and a three-way toggle switch, players have a wide palette of tonal options to choose from.
A build of this caliber would not be complete without gold hardware. A top mounted Floyd Rose, locking nut, and Grover 18:1 tuners provide tuning stability while the gold speed knobs provide for dialing in the details with ease.
