New York— At the 145th AES Convention in New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the legendary Al Schmitt will be signing copies of his new memoir, AL SCHMITT ON THE RECORD: THE MAGIC BEHIND THE MUSIC. Signings will take place in the AES Member Center Thursday through Saturday from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. During each signing, books will be available for purchase at a 25% discount!

For over eight star-studded decades, Al Schmitt has been inside our heads, recording, producing, and engineering music for the greatest talents the industry has to offer. As a producer and engineer, he has been privileged to work with the best musicians and singers of any given era; indeed, his discography contains a veritable who’s who of the music world. Having borne witness to over half a century of music history, earning the respect and admiration of everybody he encountered in the process, Schmitt is now ready to share his story.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Al Schmitt has worked with the best and the brightest in the recording industry, including Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Usher, and Dr. Dre, to name a few. He has recorded and mixed over 150 gold and platinum records and has gone on to receive twenty-three Grammys for engineering albums by such artists as Steely Dan, Toto, Natalie Cole, Quincy Jones, Diana Krall, Luis Miguel, Ray Charles, Chick Corea, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Paul McCartney. Schmitt was inducted into to the TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 1997, and he was awarded the NARAS Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2006. In 2015, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Capitol Records building—the first engineer to be so honored. He lives in Los Angeles.

Maureen Droney, the Recording Academy’s Managing Director/Producers & Engineers Wing, is a former recording engineer for artists such as George Benson, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, John Hiatt, and Carlos Santana. Prior to joining the Recording Academy, Droney oversaw the House of Blues Studios in Los Angeles and Memphis and East Iris Studios in Nashville. She is the former Los Angeles editor of Mix magazine, author of the textbook Mix Masters: Platinum Engineers Share Their Secrets for Success, and co-author of The Pensado Papers, about the rise of the audio industry web phenomenon, Pensado’s Place. She lives in Los Angeles.
